about Technorati, a blog search engine
Technorati, a place to expose your blog.
If you have just start blogging, technorati might be a great place to let people discover your blog. This is incredibly helpful for new born blogs as it usually takes weeks or months for new blog to be indexed by major search engine.
But what do you think technorati is? A Website, a portal, a social bookmarking, or a social network?
In fact, wikipedia defines technorati as a search engine. This is what Wikipedia wrote about technorati at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Technorati
Technorati is an Internet search engine for searching blogs, competing with Google and Yahoo. As of June 2008, Technorati indexes 112.8 million blogs and over 250 million pieces of tagged social media. The name Technorati is a portmanteau, pointing to the technological version of literati, or intellectuals.
While wikipedia keeps the technorati definition as a blog search engine, technorati now introduces itself as a full service media company. This is, however, achieved after some acquisitions of online ad company and blogger communities. >> ambil quotes dari technorati media
How technorati works
To get a better picture of the method behind technorati, it is quite important to understand the so called tagnology. Tag is keywords or phrases used to describe the subject or topic of a blog post. Blog posts are labeled with tags to make it listed on a “probably related posts” when a post is being viewed. Sometimes tags are used to categorize posts in a blog.
Technorati looks at these tags and uses it to categorize their blog search results. If there are multiple entries with the same tag, technorati sorts the blog search results based on the post’s timestamp. Hence, it returns the latest or the most recent post first. recent results coming first
